Humble beginnings...
 
After receiving a diagnosis of leukemia, Mary Arndt, from Yorktown, Virginia, decided to establish the Yorktown Calligraphy Guild in December of 2015. 
​
Where are we?
​
We are located in Yorktown, Virginia. We also include Poquoson, Newport News, Hampton, and surrounding areas.
 
Who are we?
​

We are calligraphers on different levels, some beginners, some novices. We are people whose goals are to educate and encourage people, and to pass on the art of calligraphy.

A Brief Look at Our History

​

  • Dec 2015  Mary Arndt, a calligrapher in Yorktown, Virginia creates the Yorktown Calligraphy Guild on Facebook.

  • Jan 2016   Having only 10 members, she decides to use social media to promote guild. Guild then has 35 members.

  • Jan 2016   Mary Arndt decides to hold the first calligraphy class on Italics, at the Poquoson Library with 10 students.

  • Apr 2016  Mary decides to teach Modified Old English.

  • Aug 2016  Our First Guild Meeting at the Poquoson Library.

  • Mar 2017  Our Second Guild Meeting at the Yorktown Library.

  • Apr 2017   The first officers are voted in at our third meeting: President: Mary Arndt, Vice President: Jill Figuenick, Secretary: Patty Capps, and Treasurer:  Curtis Rogers.

  • May 2017  Our official motto was created by a member: Citattus Exercitus Custoditus Aureum Scriptura. [Promoting, Practicing, Preserving Beautiful writing].

  • May 2017  Our official crest is developed by a member and will be finalized soon.
