Humble beginnings...
After receiving a diagnosis of leukemia, Mary Arndt, from Yorktown, Virginia, decided to establish the Yorktown Calligraphy Guild in December of 2015.

Where are we?
​
We are located in Yorktown, Virginia. We also include Poquoson, Newport News, Hampton, and surrounding areas.
Who are we?
​
We are calligraphers on different levels, some beginners, some novices. We are people whose goals are to educate and encourage people, and to pass on the art of calligraphy.

A Brief Look at Our History

Dec 2015 Mary Arndt, a calligrapher in Yorktown, Virginia creates the Yorktown Calligraphy Guild on Facebook.

Jan 2016 Having only 10 members, she decides to use social media to promote guild. Guild then has 35 members.

Jan 2016 Mary Arndt decides to hold the first calligraphy class on Italics, at the Poquoson Library with 10 students.

Apr 2016 Mary decides to teach Modified Old English.

Aug 2016 Our First Guild Meeting at the Poquoson Library.

Mar 2017 Our Second Guild Meeting at the Yorktown Library.

Apr 2017 The first officers are voted in at our third meeting: President: Mary Arndt, Vice President: Jill Figuenick, Secretary: Patty Capps, and Treasurer: Curtis Rogers.

May 2017 Our official motto was created by a member: Citattus Exercitus Custoditus Aureum Scriptura. [Promoting, Practicing, Preserving Beautiful writing].
